Pennsylvania’s Best Snow Sledding Spots
Pennsylvanians are sliding into winter by going sled riding. It’s a sport enjoyed by all ages. Little ones can venture into their backyards. If you have older children, you can pack up the car and head to a local park, perhaps take a trip to the other side of the state. Here are our favorite snow sledding spots.
- Art Museum Steps: The Art Museum Steps located in Philadelphia is not your typical place to go sled riding. But it is one of the most iconic spots in Pennsylvania. After a big snowfall, the steps become a huge hill, and locals bring out their sleds.
- AvalancheXpress Snow Tubing: AvalancheXpress Snow Tubing is located in York and is a top sled riding and ice skating destination. It features eight tubing lanes and two tube lifts.
- Boulder Ridge Snow Tubing at Liberty Mountain Resort: Boulder Ridge Snow Tubing is located in Fairfield and has 15 tubing lanes. This snow tubing area is excellent for little ones, because it features a sledding spot made specifically for children ages 2-4.
- Eagles Mere Toboggan Slide: Eagle Mere Toboggan Slide is located in Eagles. The volunteer fire company has built an ice toboggan slide each year on the frozen Eagles Mere Lake since 1904. As soon as the lake freezes, you can join in on the fun.
- Hidden Valley Resort: Hidden Valley Resort is the ideal tubing destination. It’s so popular that every Thursday night is Tube-A-Palooza where families can enjoy a buffet and hot chocolate.
- Mellon Park: Melon Park is located in Point Breeze, Pittsburgh, famously known for its high hills. Mellon Park features the steepest hill in the county along Canton Avenue, so Mellon Park is always a popular hill for sledding in the winter.
To prepare for your sled riding adventure, be sure to pack an extra pair of clothes and gloves as you are sure to get soaked.
