Within the electric vehicle market, there are two main categories that cars might fall into. The first is a BEV, or battery-electric vehicle. These models, also known simply as EVs, run solely on electric power from a rechargeable battery pack without the need for gasoline. They have completely different powertrains than a traditional gas-powered car, and they do not feature certain car parts such as engines, catalytic converters, or exhaust systems. Instead, they include a battery, and electric motors that propel the vehicle forward. The second category is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, or PHEV. These vehicles combine the power of both gas and electricity, and feature a gas-powered engine that works in tandem with one or multiple electric motors, and a rechargeable battery. PHEVs typically offer an “all-electric range” wherein you can travel a certain distance on battery power alone.

As you can probably imagine, there are tons of benefits to purchasing an EV or PHEV! As we mentioned above, PHEVs offer an all-electric range, allowing you to use battery power rather than gas for a given distance. Even when you are using gas power, you’ll be significantly reducing your fuel consumption, which leads to big savings on gas! EVs take these savings a step further by eliminating the need for gas altogether. In general, the cost of recharging your battery is anywhere between 3-5 times cheaper than the cost of gas. Plus, since EVs don’t contain an engine or exhaust system, they require far less maintenance than a traditional gas-powered vehicle. This means you’ll also be saving money on service! In both cases, you can also drive with confidence knowing that you’re choosing a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

One brand that’s made great strides towards creating an electrified inventory is Jeep! The Jeep heritage brand has a mission to roll out an entire EV collection, and they’ve already released two great models! There are two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles within the lineup, both of which are electrified vehicles you already know and love. First off, there’s the Wrangler 4xe, which features removable doors, and a removable roof. It can handle rocky terrain, mud, and even ford up to 31.5 inches of water. The Grand Cherokee 4xe can seat up to five passengers with room to spare, and offers four trim levels that get more and more luxurious as you move up the list! For example, the Summit offers a wireless smartphone charger, heated and ventilated Nappa leather seats, and much more! Both models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and two electric motors.

Jeep isn’t the only brand that’s making strides toward a greener future! There are lots of exciting options on the market, in all shapes and sizes. If you’re looking for a spacious vehicle that has room for the whole family, then you need to check out the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. This PHEV minivan has seating for seven passengers across three rows, and features a robust V6 engine alongside its rechargeable battery. The Pacifica Hybrid also features an award-winning safety package with features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and more. In addition to its safety features, this minivan also offers a rear-seat entertainment system, leather-trimmed lumbar support pillows, and hands-free power-sliding doors. On the other hand, Dodge is offering a sleek and sporty PHEV known as the Hornet. This is Dodge’s first-ever PHEV, and its first compact-utility vehicle. The Hornet has features like a rear spoiler, a remote start system, and more!
