2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Ford Edge
Looking for the perfect SUV? It can be tough choice, with so many options on the market! That’s where we come in! Two of the best SUVs are the Grand Cherokee and the Ford Edge. Both of these vehicles come with powerful engine options and several advanced features which make them perfect additions to your driveway, but which one has the upper hand? To find out which one our experts think you should be driving home, continue reading our comparison below!
Grand Cherokee Engine Options
You get three engine choices for the Grand Cherokee, and each one is compelling! The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out a spectacular 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Those looking for a touch more power might want to check out the optional 5.7-liter V8 that pounds the pavement with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque which comes standard on the Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit trims. The final engine is the excellent hybrid known as the 4xe that uses the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which comes with two electric motors and a battery pack to deliver a massive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. All engines come with a smooth-sailing eight-speed automatic transmission. If you get the V6, you will get rear-wheel-drive as standard with the option for four-wheel-drive if you want a little more traction. All other engines get four-wheel-drive.
Ford Edge Engine Options
The Ford Edge does its best to keep up with what the Grand Cherokee offers, but it can’t quite get there. The base engine for the Edge is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder which gets you an okay 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque and pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. If you want more power, you will have to upgrade to the ST trim, which gets you a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 capable of producing 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Both engines come with all-wheel-drive for some added traction. Unfortunately, the Ford Edge does not have a hybrid engine option.
Grand Cherokee Features
In addition to being incredibly powerful, the Grand Cherokee also has tons of luxury, tech, and off-road equipment. We start with the Laredo, which comes standard with 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated mirrors, roof rails, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, you can also get tons of safety items to keep you and your family secure, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision mitigation. More luxury items are available for the Limited trim as it has LED foglights, driver’s seat memory settings, leather upholstery, and heated rear seats. Are you planning on doing some off-roading with your Grand Cherokee? Then check out the Trailhawk trim! It comes with several wonderful off-road items such as all-terrain tires, adaptive air suspension, hill ascent and descent control, front tow hooks, and an electronic disconnecting stabilizer bar. Higher trims get more spectacular luxury items such as upgraded leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ambient cabin lighting, a hands-free liftgate, front cross-traffic alert, and four-zone automatic climate control.
Edge Engine Options
The Ford Edge comes in five different trim levels, which give you some exciting features. The base trim of the Edge comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, and a 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base trim also has the option of a Black Appearance Package which gives drivers and passengers 19-inch gloss black wheels and black badges. The SE adds to this with simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and Ford’s SecuriCode entry keypad. The Edge has a sporty trim known as the ST-Line, which comes with black exterior trim with lower and front and rear fascias, 20-inch gloss black wheels, red accent exterior stitching, and ActiveX faux leather seats. Most luxury items are only available on higher trims, such as the Titanium or ST Trim. In addition, you get a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, remote engine start, leather upholstery, and a sport suspension. There is a lot to love about Edge, but the Grand Cherokee is more equipped!
